Medtronic’s Cardiac Rhythm and Heart Failure (CRHF) division generates
innovative product concepts and features, many of which eventually make their
way to the marketplace to impact patient lives and drive Medtronic’s
grow th. As a key member of the R&T
team, you will work collaboratively with other scientists and business partners
to identify new product concepts and perform early stage feasibility work to
demonstrate a concept’s viability. You may
also work on projects that have matured to be on development track and lead one
one or more its scientific components to ensure project’s overall success.

A Day in the Life:
Identify and work on novel concepts that would provide
substantial differentiation to existing Medtronic CRHF products or serve as new
product platforms in the future.
Gain a thorough understanding of CRHF current
products, initially focused on bradycardia therapy, and identify areas of
enhancements.
Determine the type of research work needed to
demonstrate a concept’s feasibility, and design and and execute research work
(e.g. pre-clinical, human clinical) to demonstrate concept’s feasibility.
Champion ideas into products by working collaboratively
with advanced development engineers
Collaborate with physician partners to identify
unmet needs as well as refine concepts that are in the process of being
evaluated.
Collaborate with upstream marketing, product
development, device technology team, regulatory, downstream marketing,
education, and clinical evaluation functions to support the new concepts and
features.
Assimilate ideas and information from the
published and unpublished sources, formulate hypotheses, and develop research
proposals.
Publish internal reports to capture research
findings and communicate to peers and management.
Publish findings in the peer-reviewed journals
Generate intellectual property and work with
patent attorneys to file patents
Make internal presentations to peers,
management, physicians as well as at national/international meetings.

Responsibilities may in clude the following and other duties may be assigned.
Responsible for the initiation, design, development, execution, and implementation of scientific research projects.
Investigates the feasibility of applying scientific principles and concepts to potential inventions and products.
Plans and executes laboratory research.
Maintains substantial knowledge of state-of-the art principles and theories and may contribute to scientific literature and conferences.
May participate in development of patent applications.
May coordinate interdepartmental activities and research efforts.

Required: PhD in Electrical/Biomedical Engineering or equivalent Technical/Scientific discipline, and 1-5 years of experience in cardiovascular research. Nice to Have: • Good grasp of cardiac anatomy and physiology. An understanding of basic cardiac electrophysiology is also preferred. • Experience in computational modeling and pre-clinical research. • Exposu re to clinical research • Excellent problem solving and quantitative skills • Excellent written and oral communication skills • Experience with computing and data analysis environments (e.g. Matlab) • A track record of peer reviewed publications (e.g., abstracts, manuscripts, etc.) • Ability to interact and work in a team based environment
