a Specialty Claim Attorney at our corporate headquarters in Minnetonka,
MN. The Specialty Claim Attorney is responsible for ha! ndling and resolving
complex, highly specialized assigned claims through investigation, evaluation
and disposition. Within company guidelines, makes appropriate
recommendations to management on coverage and settlement. Reviews and
processes highly complex large loss claims or specialized claims that generally
settle over $200,000.
Responsibilities:
1) Makes timely and appropriate contacts and completes appropriate level of
investigation to make determination of coverage, liability and damages.
2) Determines coverage, drafts coverage correspondence, responds to coverage
questions raised by insureds and others.
3) Determines exposure, establishes adequate reserves and makes timely
adjustments as required.
4) Selects, assigns and directs activities of internal and external resources as
required; including attorneys and experts. Identifies questionable claims
and consults with SIU for further! direction as appropriate.
5) Determines settlement v! alue of the loss and negotiates proper settlement of
claims within authority. Provides recommendations for settlement and
disposition of claims exceeding authority level.
6) Documents clearly and concisely all relevant activity on assigned files and
makes recommendations for additional activity as appropriate.
7) Anticipates and meets all customer needs (internal and external).
8) May coach or train less experienced claim representatives.
Requirements:
Strong claims technical knowledge, and legal climate background is
essential. Possesses strong knowledge of highly specialized claim
types. Strong analytical and negotiation skills. Must have the ability to
interact with brokers, insureds, and internal stakeholders. Excellent verbal and
written communication skills. Must maintain a high level of accuracy, and
provide follow-through on projects. Requires the ability to maintain
confidential info! rmation and work independently and as a member of a team.
Demonstrated proficiency with computer software including current Windows
Operating System, Microsoft Office, and Microsoft Outlook.
Education and Experience:
JD required. The ideal candidate should have 7-10 years of specialized
claims handling experience (10-15 preferred).
