The Child Support Division of the County Attorney's Office acts as legal counsel and advisor to our client, Hennepin County Support and Collections. This division's mission is to represent the State of Minnesota and Hennepin County in actions establishing early determination of parentage as well as the establishment and enforcement of child support orders. Through aggressive advocacy, this division promotes economic security for children, strengthens family bonds and ensures that the obligation for support of children falls where it rightfully belongs - on their parents. This paralegal position will provide case-related support to all attorneys in the section.
The Child Support Division is located in the Family Justice Center, downtown Minneapolis.
The primary duties and responsibilities of this position include:
Organize, index, assemble and/or summarize files, facts, records, pleadings, exhibits and other relevant do! cuments for case preparation; prepare legal documents and othe! r case materials.
Identify, collect, review and evaluate information to assist attorneys in the determination of appropriateness of legal action, development of legal issues and preparation of cases.
Prepare, file and/or serve certain legal documents, including letters, motions, affidavits, court orders, subpoenas, stipulation and discovery requests, deposition and interview summaries.
Enter case outcome information in the case management system.
Best Qualified Candidates will have:
One of the following: A four year paralegal degree from an accredited college or university
A four year degree from an accredited college or university AND a certificate from an accredited legal assistant certificate program
A two-year degree from an accredited community, business, or technical college with the legal assistant certificate AND two years or more of experience performing legal work Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, accura! cy and attention to detail
Skill in preparing and organizing materials for use by others
Knowledge of Word, Lotus Notes, Excel, Power Point, MNCIS and Westlaw with the ability to conduct electronic research
Ability to: Work under pressure during periods of high volume activity
Provide prompt, polite, and respectful customer service to all persons requesting service
Communicate verbally and in writing in an organized, concise, accurate and on-point manner; and to be an active and attentive listener with skill in interviewing and comprehending key points
Work independently with minimal supervision and also the ability to work effectively in a team environment
