Overall responsibilities include preparing paperwork for customs clearance, ABI systems processing/transmission, other government agency reporting, tracing of shipment for account as necessary, (rail, ocean or air freight), setting up delivery or coordinating delivery with our day Manager and identifying and listing all appropriate charges for billing. This individual will be authorized, by power of attorney, to sign and endorse customs documents or bills of lading as needed on behalf of clients.

The responsibilities for this position include:

  • Receive documents from Brokerage log-in desk
  • Advise customer of receipt of documents and follow any established communication or reports from receipt of documents through delivery of shipment
  • Advice customer of any missing documents necessary to obtain release
  • Track shipments as necessary and pay charges to carrier and/or submit
  • endorsed Bills of Lading as may be needed
    • Handle all customs and other government agency documentation (i.e FDA)
    • Work with the harmonized tariff book and the customer to properly classify goods
    • Enter data into the computer and send to customs
    • Communicate with airlines and steamship lines to get information needed for making customs entries
    • Verify releases and dispatch freight
    • Billing
    • Oversee customer credit
    Type of accounts for this position usually will be our established accounts with set procedures and guidelines and/or accounts that have classifications and any transaction value issues of which have already been established by Team Lead or by Department Head.
    Unusual or out of the ordinary customs issues or customer service Issues or other special requests will be approved by or addressed by a Team Lead, Department Head or in some circumstances by Level 2 Import Specialist.
    Typica! lly this person is someone that has worked in a support position within! our department or has a college degree with related major or minor, or a background in a related industry such as an Importer or Freightforwarder.
