Our
Senior Catastrophe Claims Representative
serves a! s a first responder and member of a dedicated catastrophe (CAT) claims team to investigate and settle personal and commercial lines property claims of a more complex nature in the field, at higher settlement authority limits than those claims typically handled by a CAT Claims Representative. All CAT Claims Representatives must maintain on-call availability with the ability to deploy at any time with the potential of being out for an extended period of time.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides a consistent, positive and satisfying claims experience for our clients by delivering superior claims service.
- Responds to deployment directives and travels to catastrophe areas to evaluate, negotiate, and settle personal and commercial lines property claims resulting from natural catastrophes in various geographic locations.
- Investigates property claims (which may include those of a more complex nature) by determining applicable! policy coverage and evaluating damages. Obtains and analyzes a wide variety of documentation related to the claim (i.e. ISO reports, police reports, fire reports, written estimates, etc.) and draws the proper conclusions related to claim investigation.
- Completes physical inspections of the more extensive property claims, evaluates damages, and prepares written estimates according to policy provisions.
- Initiates first contact with insureds and all relevant parties to gather basic information, obtain recorded statements (when necessary), and explain the overall claims process.
- Maintains continuous communication with all affected parties regarding each step of the claims process.
- Communicates and negotiates with a variety of individuals regarding investigation and settlement of property claims. This includes insureds, attorneys, public adjusters, contractors, insurance carriers and other involved parties.
- Refers claims exceeding ow! n personal authority level to management for their review, along with r! ecommendations for investigation and settlement.
Physical Requirements
- Travel may be as high as 90% to effectively handle catastrophe claims in the field
- Possesses and maintains a valid driverâs license with the ability to drive a car and travel via other modes of transportation to/from the catastrophe site
- Maintains on-call availability with the ability to deploy at any time with the potential for being out for extended periods
- Extended work hours, including weekends, will be required
- Must be able to climb onto ladders, roofs, and other structures to inspect damage
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds
- Education equivalent to graduation from high school (or the equivalent in related work experience)
- Maintains the appropriate adjusterâs licensing as required by the states in which we do business
- Three or more years of property claims adjusting experience (or the equivalent)
- Proven ability to reason and make decisions independently while working as a member of a dedicated catastrophe claims team in the field
- Demonstrates solid technical claims proficiency, including knowledge of property coverage
- Excellent oral and written communication, including the ability to negotiate effectively
- Possesses excellent interpersonal and organizational skills and analytical ability
- Must have the ability to deal with all levels of inside/outside personnel and insureds
- Demonstrates basic computer proficiency, including knowledge of Microsoft WORD and Excel (or their equivalents)
Experience
- Three or more yearsâ experience as a Catastrophe Claims Representative (or the equivalent) with the proven abi! lity to independently investigate, negotiate, and settle property CAT c! laims
- Previous experience in both personal and commercial lines
- A good working knowledge of construction, estimating, and estimating systems involved in the handling of property claims.
