The Civil Division of the Fourth Judicial District is seeking to fill a Senior Court Clerk position that rotates regularly between Housing Court on the 3rd floor of the Henne! pin County Government Center and Civil Intake on the Public Service Level.
Work may involve responsibility for a specific area of court case processing or for performing a variety of advanced clerical functions in Housing Court and Civil Intake, which may require the application of independent judgment and the interpretation of policies and procedures based on training and knowledge gained through experience on the job. Work is reviewed by a supervisor through observation of operations and on the basis of results achieved. These positions will rotate and provide coverage for Civil Intake on the Public Service Level in a sporadic or scheduled manner as determined by the supervisor.
Example of Duties:
- Assist customers at the counter in both Housing Court and Civil Intake on the Public Service Level and on the phone. Refer customers to onsite attorneys when appropriate.
- Enter case and subsequent documents into MNCIS, set court dat! es; prepare and send notices.
- Review service papers f! or timeliness and other statutory guidelines.
- Update computer and file in court file.
- Update/process case outcomes following court appearances.
- Clerk in courtroom.
- Accept payments for rent when ordered by the court and ring receipts using cash register.
- Process rent disbursements according to court order.
- Rotate desk assignments.
- Electronically record court proceedings
- Assist with other civil departments as needed
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience (6 month to 2 years) as a court clerk or in the legal field
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally with attorneys, court staff, judicial officers and the general public.
- Team-oriented, with a positive attitude.
- Excellent customer service and interpers! onal skills including the ability to descalate difficult customer interactions.
- Ability to multi-task, work well under pressure and work in a high volume, fast paced work environment.
- Ability to learn and retain new material and concepts.
- Reliable, with the ability to meet commitments and keep work projects on task.
- Demonstrates initiative and self-directed completion of work upon knowledge of expectations and goals.
- Ability to sit/stand for extended periods of time; some lifting and bending.
- Successful candidates will have to pass a criminal background check prior to appointment
- Experience with Housing Court or Civil cases
- Ability to work with diverse customer base
- Ability to type 40 words per minute
- Proficiency in MNCIS
