The City of Bloomington is seeking individuals to provide a variety of support services to the Police Department in order to relieve sworn officers of such duti! es. This position is identified as being of short-term duration as the position offers public service experience for candidates interested in continuing into police or law enforcement careers. Several openings, part-time approximately 25 hours per week.
Examples of Duties:
Assists in the routine maintenance and cleaning of police vehicles including transport to and from repair facilities
Provides no-contact monitoring of prisoners in detention facility
Prepares meals and feeds prisoners in detention facility
Performs laundry duties within detention facility
Maintains community relations by conducting tours of the Police Department
Completes forms and reports as required
Assists with crime prevention activities
Assists at police department front counter
Provides delivery services including, but not limited to, packages to crime lab or BCA, documents to court or attorneys’ offices, jail meals for inmates, City Council/Mayo! r packages delivered, or as assigned
Assists property tech! nician or investigations division in transportation or recovery of evidence or found property; additionally, could assist in picking up reports, prints or photo lineups for the investigations division
Assists in setting up traffic speed trailer
Assist with Animal Control duties, to include dealing with animal complaints, barking dogs, injured animals, dog bites, lose dogs/cats, etc.
Cleans animal kennel, feeds animals, intakes and releases impounded animals
Provides limited amount of filing or data entry, or general clerical support
Performs other related work as assigned
Minimum/Desirable Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
High School graduate or G.E.D. equivalent
Valid driver’s license
Currently enrolled in a post secondary law enforcement program or college level courses in criminal justice, police science or related subjects
One year of public contact or customer service experience
Ability to communi! cate effectively through oral and written skills
Ability to communicate with the public, other police department employees and other City employees effectively
Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle
Ability to learn and apply various laws, codes and regulations
Ability to do some lifting, bending, climbing, reaching, overhead pushing and pulling
Ability to perform the essential functions of the position
Ability to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends and holidays Desirable Qualifications
Experience in police related work such as a police reserve program, police explorer program, police cadet program, or criminal justice internship
Prior Community Service Officer experience with another agency
Paid or volunteer experience working with animals
Additional years of work experience in dealing with the public
