Hennepin County Diversity Policy
The Special Litigation - Complex Crime Section prosecutes economic offenses which are particularly serious because of the amount of financial loss or because they are particularly complicated. Many of these cases involve mortgage fraud, employee theft, identity theft, vulnerable adult victims and other economic crimes.
This attorney position also works with Hennepin County Attorney's Office initiatives at the Minnesota Legislature.
The primary duties and responsibilities for this position include: Prepare cases for prosecution of white collar crime.
Try white collar cases and prosecute appeals.
Interview prospective complainants and police officers relative to the violation of statutes and filing of complaints.
Prepare briefs, opinions, pleadings and other legal papers.
Confer with attorneys, other county employees and other interested parties regarding criminal prosecutions. !
Conduct necessary legal research; keep case records and ma! ke reports.
Perform necessary research for investigations and prepare briefs for the trial of cases involving criminal prosecution.
Best Qualified Candidates will have: A license to practice law in the State of Minnesota.
Three or more years of experience as a practicing attorney.
Experience evaluating, charging and prosecuting white collar crime.
Experience in government relations including: drafting legislation, working with stakeholders to obtain support for legislation, identifying subject matter experts to provide supportive testimony.
Experience making effective presentations for the pleading of court cases.
Knowledge of: Criminal practice, local laws and ordinances, established precedents and legal reference sources.
The principles, methods and practices of legal research and investigation.
Judicial procedures and the rules of evidence. Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and persuasive public s! peaking ability.
Ability to establish effective working relationships and to collaborate with other county departments.
