Note: This is an unclassified, part-time, grant funded position working 16-24 hours/week for a limited duration. (Please read the definition of "Unclassified" at the end of this page.)
Focus for this particular position will be to:
Assist with special investigations.
Work with the Assistant Director of the Criminal Division and the First Assistant County Attorney on developing a procedure manual and protocols for investigations which include interviewing and report writing.
Assist in the investigation of sex trafficking and sexual exploitation including developing information for other agencies to use.
Provide follow-up on gun cases in Ramsey County by developing techniques to determine the origination of guns used in commission of felonies.
Examples of Work Performed:
- Develop and prepare financial spreadsheets for purposes ! of investigative analysis and courtroom exhibits.
- Pla! n and conduct interviews of witnesses, complainants, business people and bank officials to obtain information and evidence relating to alleged crimes.
- Plan and conduct interrogations of suspects or potential defendants to obtain information and evidence concerning criminal cases.
- Develop and utilize sources of information to obtain evidence that criminal acts have been committed.
- Prepare affidavits and search warrants sufficient under the law, and present to a judge.
- Plan and assist sworn law enforcement personnel in the execution of search warrants and in conducting searches of places and persons to obtain evidence.
- Collect, protect and preserve physical evidence to ensure the admissibility of evidence in court proceedings.
- Assist in the preparation of criminal complaints.
- Prepare complete, detailed and accurate narrative financial, investigative and administrative reports according to standards provided by the! Ramsey County Attorney's Office; present reports to the staff attorney for decision.
- Make recommendations to the prosecuting attorney on whether to prosecute or terminate a case; provide advice and assistance in preparing a case for trial.
- Provide liaison with other state, local and federal law enforcement agencies and prosecutors' offices.
- Conduct conflict-of-interest investigations relating to other jurisdictions, as required.
Education: Completion of two years of relevant college course work.
Experience: Four years of investigative or law enforcement experience.
Substitutions: The following combinations of education and experience may substitute for the above-noted requirements:
(1) Two years of relevant college course work AND four years of child support, financial, or economic crimes investigation or law enforcement experience.
(2) Bachelor! 's Degree in relevant field; AND two years of child support, financial,! or economic crimes investigation or law enforcement experience.
(3) High school diploma or equivalent; AND six years of child support, financial, or economic crimes investigation or law enforcement experience.
Exam/Screening Process Information:
The exam process consists of applicants completing the on-line application.
