This attorney will be a critical member of the organization and will work with a variety of cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment to build, maintain and enforce a strong intellectual property portfolio in support of the company's product development strategy. Responsibilities will include performing, supporting and/or supervising: strategic IP planning including patent application, prosecution and litigation planning across the company’s IP portfolio, due diligence investigations and freedom to operate analyses, and business development and licensing input.
Job Duties & Responsibilities! :
- Develop and implement strategy, procedures ! and programs to develop and maintain the intellectual property portfolios and legal rights of the Company, with an emphasis on the patent portfolio strategy and evaluation of new inventions.
- Support and manage patent litigation and pre-litigation activities, including working with outside counsel to develop strategies to defend, resolve and prevent various forms of litigation in the US and international jurisdictions.
- Assist in the drafting and prosecuting of patent and design applications and manage appeals, oppositions, re-examinations, etc. filed by outside counsel or third-parties.
- Visit and support R&D and other business facilities and participate with in-house intellectual property team in project meetings to review the R&D activity, identify and protect new inventions, and identify potential patent infringement risks.
- Providing IP intelligence to the business through investigation and monitoring of third-party intellectual property! .
- Managing outside counsel in the U.S. and abroad, and working within a budget.
- Enhance internal training program for key persons to maximize understanding of IP as a business asset and tool and the best practices for protection of that asset.
- Manage and/or support contract reviews containing intellectual property issues. .
- Conduct administrative activities related to management of intellectual property records/databases and other general duties as assigned.
- 5-8 years of experience practicing patent law in a law firm or corporate legal department with a sophisticated patent practice. Thorough knowledge of patent law and international patent procurement practices and procedures.
- J.D. from an accredited law school.
- Must be registered with USPTO.
- Experience with the manufacturing and/or consumer product industries.
- Innovative, professional, customer-focused, fas! t learner and self-starter with strong business acumen.
- Motiva! ted, proactive and confident with a strong drive and will to perform, while also being flexible to handle both large and small projects with enthusiasm.
- Must be able to take ownership of projects and responsibilities in a fast-paced and ever-changing business environment.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, analytical skills, client relationship skills, and ability to interact with engineers, lawyers, and executives at all levels, both inside and outside the organization.
