OVERVIEW OF POSITION:
The Director of Student Conduct directs the UMD Office of Student Conduct (OSC) and serves as the university's lead in interpretation and implementation of the Board of Regents Student Conduct Code. The Director reports directly to the Vice Chancellor for Student Life and Dean of Students.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- A Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology, social work, personal counseling, educational psychology, or related fields; and six years or more of progressively responsible experience (including some at a supervisory or high technical level in student counseling, social case or group work, recreational leadership, or personnel administration) or a Master's degree and four years or more of such experience, would provide this background.
- Master's! degree and previous Title IX experience.
DUTIES:
Managerial (30%)
- Supervise 1 professional and 2-4 undergraduate/graduate administrative support students
- Serve as campus administrator for Maxient (student conduct database system), implementing training and work flow for all departments using the system (OSC, Housing and Residence Life, Human Resources and Equal Opportunity)
- Design and implement initial and ongoing training and leadership for hearing panel advisors and two hearing panels
- Recruit and train faculty, staff, and students for two hearing panels
- Providing training to faculty, staff and students on Title IX
- Responsible for updating UMD disciplinary procedures
- Oversee assessment efforts for OSC
- Responsible for OSC budget development and oversight
- Exercise discretionary and professional judgment
- Creatively seek res! ources needed to accomplish objectives through grants
- Facilitate and provide for meetings with students who have been charged with violating the UMD conduct code
- Act as Title IX Delegate for students
- Incorporate elements of restorative justice, social justice, mediation, facilitated dialogue, shuttle diplomacy, and alternative dispute resolution
- Analyze and assess each case in light of student development and community impact from a best practice model
- Provide sanctions and complete follow up with respect to communication and documentation
- Implement student driven hearing panel model
- Act as liaison between University and students, parents, attorneys, Duluth Police Department, court personnel, faculty, and staff
- Liaison to Twin Cities for review, recommendations, and editing of the Board of Regents' Student Conduct Cod! e
- Coordinate behavior intervention techniques in collaboration! with the Student Behavior Management Committee and other UMD personnel
- Serve on University and Student Life committees as appointed
- Serve as resource person for academic integrity issues, student behavior concerns, classroom disruption incidents, and violations of student conduct code
- Interpret and apply detailed policies, procedures and regulations at the college, state, and federal level; document proceedings; and ensure due process for all parties
- Collect and report crime statistics as needed for Federal and University agencies
- Create statistical reporting for department, division, colleges, and athletics
- Keep abreast of current trends and practices through professional development
