The Ninth Judicial District seeks one (1) part-time (20 hours per week - .5 FTE) Senior Court Clerk for the Roseau County/Kittson County/Marshall County Administrative Unit (the ! permanent work location will be Roseau County - Roseau, Minnesota).
This is advanced court clerical work in a District Court of the Minnesota State Court System. Work may involve responsibility for a specific area of court case processing or for performing a variety of advanced clerical functions in multiple case types and will require the application of independent judgment and the interpretation of policies and procedures based on training and knowledge gained through experience on the job. Advice and assistance will normally be provided as needed by a Court Operations Supervisor or Court Administrator, but most functions will be performed with a minimum of checking or other supervision. Attention to detail and frequent contact with outside agencies, the public, litigants and attorneys at the counter, in the courtroom and on the telephone is required.
Example of Duties:
Performs the full scope of varied court clerical work involved in case pro! cessing using the Minnesota Court Information System (MNCIS) o! r related computer system; reviews legal documents for completeness, adequacy, accuracy and compliance with rules; determines processing required and takes necessary action in accordance with court rules and procedures; will schedule and attend court hearings; may determine proper routing of complaints, petitions, and other filings; sends notices to parties/attorneys; may issue subpoenas and similar processes; may certify and/or and authenticate documents; perform financial activities within the office; and calculate costs and amounts due for judgments, traffic and criminal cases.
The person employed in this position will be required to travel between Roseau, Kittson, and Marshall Counties as needed as a normal work duty.
Typical Qualifications:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent; and
- Experience (6 months to 2 years) as a court clerk or in the legal field; or Paralegal, Associate's or Bachelor's degree! in a related field.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Word, Outlook and other computer software or demonstrated MNCIS proficiency.
- Well organized, with attention to detail while remaining on task with multiple interruptions.
- Demonstrated ability to independently make appropriate decisions and process a variety of information to reach a reasonable decision.
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret documents of varying type and complexity for completeness, adequacy, accuracy and compliance with rules
- Demonstrated dependability.
- Demonstrated skill in the operation of a personal computer and other standard office equipment.
- Demonstrated proficiency in customer service, with a stakeholder and team focus.
- Demonstrated ability to be team oriented and work cooperatively while maintaining a positive attitude.
- Demonstrated accuracy in work product.
- Strong org! anizational, analytical, and time management skills.
- Considera! ble knowledge of computer systems including Windows, Word and Outlook with the ability to easily learn new systems.
- Ability to work respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds, both as customers and co-workers.
- Ability to sit/stand for extended periods of time; some lifting and bending.
- Ability to type 40+ WPM.
- Willingness to be a team member who is skilled, efficient, flexible, motivated and willing to be there for the good of the team over and above personal preferences.
- Ability to multi-task.
- Ability to retain information when changing tasks.
Work is performed primarily in an office-setting, courtroom or at a public counter. Work involves contact with persons who may be angry, abusive or threatening.
Successful candidates will be required to pass a Criminal Background Check prior to appointment.
