We currently have an opportunity for a Supervisor in Patient Accounting. This position is responsible for the supervision and direction of 7 Patient Accounting staff. This includes timely and accurate cash application, billing, collections, financial and management reporting and the automation as well as customer service and contin! uous improvement of these functions.

Location:! St. Paul
Hours: Monday â€" Friday business hours

Requirements:

  • Bachelor degree in finance/accounting/or related area, or five years of appropriate level of work experience.
  • 2-4 years supervisory experience
  • Experience with computerized billing/collections systems in a healthcare setting.
  • Experience with billing Fee-for-Service, Contracted and non-contracted insurance collections i.e. Worker’s Compensation Medicare, Medicaid, Self-Insurance.
  • Ability and desire to work effectively and productively with other members of the management team and HealthPartners staff, patients, vendors, and customers.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong management and staff development skills.
  • Detail oriented with good problem solving skills.
  • Previous experience in accounts receivables processing and management.
Accountabilities:
  • Prod! uctively works with all levels of management and staff; operates as integral part of management team. Supports and assists team members.
  • Selects, trains, develops, motivates and directs a competent staff. Conducts performance reviews. Fosters a philosophy of positive customer service and continuous improvement. Manages planning process and contributes to budgeting for area of responsibility.
  • Develops and continuously improves processes and procedures to facilitate accurate, timely financial information and reporting and managerial information related to Patient Accounting
  • Develops and implements auditing methodology to assess data integrity. Directs audits, documents results and presents information to manager for review. Makes recommendations for continuous improvement of centrally maintained systems.
  • Ensures that department policies follow State and/or Federal guidelines.
  • Assists with improvement of the Patient Accounting syste! m as part of the Patient Accounting Management Team. Recommends changes! and improvements to the automated system, assisting with user acceptance testing as needed.
  • Responsible for accuracy, timelines, and completeness of all applicable charges into the generation of revenue for the HealthPartners Medical Group (HPMG).
  • Conducts ongoing review of Patient Accounting procedures as well as overall departmental operations to identify problems and recommend/implement solutions this will include writing drafts of these documents.
  • Trains new employees and holds periodic in-house training sessions. Requires thorough cross training of employees to bill all types of coverage regardless of departmental organization.
  • Supervises documentation procedures and ascertains that documentation is kept at all times within the automated system.
  • Supervises handling of inquires from carriers and patients regarding insurance claims and ascertains that they are answered correctly and timely.
  • Conducts regular periodic ! staff meetings to inform staff of changes in policies, new business systems problems, etc. Provides in-service training.
  • Supervises telephone and mail follow up on amounts due from customers on a timely basis in accordance with departmental policies.
  • Coordinates activities, answers inquire, and provides documentation requested by collection agencies and attorneys.
  • Stays abreast of HealthPartners overall operations and the health care industry.
  • Provides direction of point of service (POS) clinic billing and written Patient Accounting Guidelines and procedures to clinics. Works with Clinic Systems to resolve problems/issues related to billing and cash collection.
  • Supports and assists other areas of the company to ensure timely receipt of payments, timely and accurate deposit of corporate funds, accurate financial reporting and exceptional customer service.
  • Works with patients/guarantors and insurance companies to resolve b! illing inquiries/errors.
  • Actively participates in the creation! , update and ongoing testing of business continuity and disaster recovery planning and preparation.
  • Performs additional duties as requested.
