General Mills is seeking a Counsel to join the US Retail Organization Legal Team. This team provides legal support and advice in the area of marketing and sales, including contract review and negotiation, for certain assigned business units of General Mills.

In this role you will:

• Advise the company’s US food businesses on a variety of legal issues relating to the marketing and sale of food products (e.g., review of marketing, advertising and promotional materials, product packaging and labelin! g, claims substantiation, sweepstakes and contests, social med! ia).
• Advise on and manage network advertising clearance and NAD, CARU and FTC advertising policies and proceedings.
• Advise on sales, distribution and antitrust issues (e.g., Robinson-Patman, trade programs, category management, terms of sale).
• Draft contracts, documents, and correspondence relating to the above.
• Keeps informed of new laws, regulations, and industry trends affecting the company, and assists with development of policies and training as needed
• Participate as legal representative on cross-functional teams.
• Develop a comprehensive understanding of the company’s businesses and business practices; engage in a participative and proactive style of legal practice in order to best serve internal clients.
• Work as a team member with other attorneys and legal resources advising the US businesses.
• Undertake additional responsibilities as determined from time to time by the company.
• Travel a! s required to represent the interests of General Mills.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Juris Doctorate with 4 - 6 years' experience at a law firm and/or consumer packaged goods law department with experience in the areas of marketing and advertising, regulatory counseling (e.g., FDA, FTC), and contract drafting.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience and ability to identify issues, and provide legal service and advice on non-routine matters, with minimal supervision.
• Superior written and oral communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization.
• Practical and creative problem analysis and resolution skills.
• Excellent business judgment with the ability to make decisions and give advice that demonstrates an understanding of overall business objectives and the risk/reward of each situation.
• Maturity and strong leadership skills, with the ability to articulate! positions and provide direction.
• Admission in good standing t! o practice law in at least one state.
• A commitment to the highest professional and ethical standards.
• Strong executive “presence” and the ability to quickly gain the confidence of clients, enhanced by a strong sense of teamwork and outstanding people skills.
• Flexibility of style as a lawyer, as a member of a multi-disciplined team, and as a business person.
• Ability to effectively work in a team oriented environment.
• A high level of energy and self-motivation.
