Reporting to the Vice President of Specialty Claims, the AVP will be responsible for all aspects of the Financial Services claims. Financial Services writes certain insurance for financial institutions, money centers, insurance companies, and related financial entities. Serves as single point of contact for underwriting business partner, brokers, and insureds. May participate as member of business partners management team. Analyzes and communicates overall claim results for the business segment and achievement of business segment objectives. Support Financial Services underwriting with communication about specific claims, identification of claim trends, detailed analysis of claim metrics, underwriter training, marketing support, and input on form development. Works closely with actuary and will be responsible for other areas written by Financial Services including workers compensation, general liability, and ! property.
The position requires detailed, comprehensive an! alysis of complex coverage issues and claims. Will direct handle errors and omissions, directors and officers, trust, fiduciary, employment, class actions, financial institution bond claims, and other complex claims. Within company guidelines and where decisions exceed the individuals authority, the claims professional will make appropriate recommendations to senior management on coverage, future claim handling, and resolution strategies. Responsible for operational and administrative support of any claim handling operation unique to the business segment, possibly in multiple locations.
Responsibilities:
1) Plans and executes strategic planning and achievement of goals for the business segments claims, through input in large loss conferencing, direct claim handling of largest exposures, analysis of claims results, and robust feedback to underwriting. Creates annual operational goals and objectives for any claim handling operation unique to the business s! egment.
2) Supports the business segment with analysis of claim trends, training on claim developments and coverages, input on form development, marketing support, participation in business segment management meetings, and support of business segment initiatives.
3) Ensures overall reserving activity of unique business segment operation is consistent with corporate policy. For unique business segment operation, oversees settlement evaluations and grants authority where settlement requests exceed staff requests.
4) Develops and manages the overall operating budget for unique business segment operation ensuring the all financial goals are being met.
5) Responsible for cost containment and expenses related to all claim files within the unique business segment claims operation.
6) Anticipates and meets all customer needs (internal and external).
Requirements:
Excellent claims technical knowledge, and knowledge of multiple jurisdictions an! d lines of business. Thorough knowledge of the business segment, includ! ing specialty lines of coverage unique to that segment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent negotiation skills. Must have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with internal claims and business partners and interact with internal and external partners and customers. Must maintain a high level of accuracy, and provide follow-through on projects. Requires the ability to maintain confidential information and work independently and as a team. 20-25% travel required. Demonstrated proficiency with computer software including current Windows Operating System, Microsoft Office, and Microsoft Outlook.
Education and Experience:
J.D. required. The ideal candidate will have 7-10 years of related claims or legal experience (practicing defense Attorneys), including within the business segment. 3-5 years of management experience preferred.
