Under supervision, acts as lead worker to other child support officers, support enforcement aides and collections officers; performs complex work in the drafting and review of child support and collections actions referred by a county social services/human services agency to the county attorney's office; reviews the work of other child support/collections staff in the agency; and performs related work as assigned. This position may also carry a smaller caseload of child support and/or collections cases.
Examples of Duties:
- Provides work direction for child support officers and other staff in the child support unit.
- Trains new staff.
- Serves as a resource to answer questions from staff and respond to complaints from the public.
- Distributes work assignments and coordinates coverage of caseloads when staff members are absent.
- Provides input to supervisor regarding policies, training procedures, and staff performance evaluations.
- Represents the work unit when coordinating casework with other units and the courts.
- Reviews contempt actions, summons and complaints, actions for reimbursement, affidavits, confessions of judgments, orders to show cause and other legal documents prior to referral to county attorney's office to ensure that appropriate actions are being taken and that information referred is complete, accurate and concise.
- Reviews cases returned from county attorney's office and takes appropriate action.
- Drafts findings, orders, and judgments for review by the county attorney.
- Consults with supervisor on special or unusual case, and recommend actions to be taken by the supervisor.
- Recommends new ideas, forms, policies and procedures for the child support/collections unit to the supervisor and agency management.
- Interprets/explains rules, manual material, policies/informational bulletins and office procedure to staff/clients.
- Three years experience as a Child Support Officer, Collections Officer or equivalent experience.
- A bachelor's degree in criminal justice, paralegal, business administration, public administration or closely related field and one year experience as a Child Support Officer, Collections Officer, or equivalent.
The examination process consists entirely of a rating of experience and training.
