SUMMARY In conformance with basic and sound engineering principles, policies and controls, this position shall develop and implement solutions to manufacturing engineering projects and manufacturing problems. This employee must also stay abreast of current manufacturing technologies and will be required to provide input to planning of future operations and products. This position will supervise manufacturing engineering personnel in the development of new solutions for manufacturing problems and processes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Supervise, direct, plan, and delegate assignments to manufacturing engineering personnel who will investigate, analyze, organize, research, test and recommend solutions to engineering and production problems. Investigate, analyze, research and recommend solutions to manufacturing related problems and needs. Prepare Investment Requests (I.R.) with necessary supportive data. Monitor, coordinate and supervise I.R. related activities including those of outside contractors, tool and machine builders, etc. to assure competent and timely completion of their commitments and the completion of the I.R. projects within budget and schedule requirements. Coordinate and guide Manufacturing Engineering Personnel and technical facets of manufacturing engineering projects. Research and study advanced technology and manufacturing procedure for the development of proposals for automation, process flow improvements, mechanization, production methods, production throughput and improved product quality. Represent Manufacturing Engineering functions at development and progress meetings for the purpose of improving, cost reducing and/or automating the manufacture of the product. Prepare reports and presentations for management review regarding prioritization, feasibility and cost justification for proposed or active projects. Work closely with other departments whose services are necessary to the conclusion of projects. Maintain records and files pertinent to special and regular projects. Represent Manufacturing Engineering in meetings and/or correspondence with plant visitors, sales reps, and corporate engineering representatives, corporate executive personnel, international corporate representative and local and corporate management personnel. Maintain patent application program. Other duties may be assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Supervise employees in Plant Engineering. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Supervise as assigned, Manufacturing Engineering personnel to specific project assignments. Supervise consultants, contractors, trades people, vendor representatives and plant personnel as required by each project.

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE The position of Manufacturing Engineering Supervisor requires a B.S. Degree or equivalent technical training and experience in a field relevant to manufacturing. Master’s preferred. Academic strengths are required in mechanical design, mathematics, trigonometry, structural mechanics, electrical and electronic fundamentals, pneumatic and hydraulic fundamentals, written and verbal communications, and manufacturing engineering concentration. Experience and/or training in the following areas are preferred:

  • Sheet metal processing and fabrication
  • PC skills
  • Machine design/automation
  • Building construction and design
  • Manufacturing processes and materials
  • Hydraulics
  • Automation/robotics
Experience of eight to ten years in an engineering capacity in related manufacturing environment is preferred.
